Remodel: Pantry Addition

Our new kitchen is definitely much larger than the one in our old house, but we do miss the relatively large food pantry it had in the corner. My friend added a small laundry room to his house by utilizing a small corner of the garage. After some thinking and sketching we decided we could add pantry onto our laundry room (which connects to the kitchen).

The legs are built with 4"X4" pressure treated lumber with metal end caps. I opted to build the base and supports using 2"8"boards as the span is quite long.

Once the supports were leveled, I secured them with metal hangers and screws, taking care to place a support on 16" centers. Subfloor is just wafer boar from home depot. I stapled string across the bottom of the trusses to hold insulation in place.

Another layer of particle board on top of the wafer board to bring the floor to the correct hight and provide a nice surface for tile. Then some simple framing to frame in the two walls.

Next step is to wire in a light and outlets.
